Chennai to Ooty cab — 555 km, 36 hairpins, one trusted partner
The Chennai → Ooty drive is the most-booked South India hill-station route — 555 km via Vellore, Salem, Erode, Mettupalayam and the iconic Kallar–Coonoor 36-hairpin ghat. The standard 2N/3D Innova Crysta package costs ₹19,500 inclusive of driver bata and roughly 1,100 km coverage; the 3N/4D extended package with Mudumalai and Coonoor day-trips is ₹26,800. For groups of 8–12, the 12-seater AC Tempo Traveller at ₹26,500 is the sweet spot — pushback seats, roof carrier, full AC.
What sets Ooty apart from any other outstation route is the ghat. The Kallar–Coonoor stretch has 36 numbered hairpins climbing from 400 m to 2,200 m in 18 km — first-time drivers cook brakes and overheat radiators. Every vehicle we depute to Ooty has a same-week brake-fluid + tyre tread + radiator coolant check signed off by the workshop supervisor, and every driver has completed the route at least 10 times before being cleared for Ooty duty.
